1. History

The Institute of Molecular Pharmacology was founded in 2007. Since then, the institute is making great progress in graduate education and research.

2. Faculty and Research Conditions

Dr. Hu’s group in the Institute of Molecular Pharmacology is built around the goal of exploring the central mechanisms for pathological pain. For this purpose, multiple research techniques and approaches, including molecular biology, electrophysiology and animal behavioral tests, have been developed, improved and used in current study.

3. Research Fields and Teaching Work

Our academic interests lie in the area of pathological pain, especially focusing on the neuronal plastic changes induced by peripheral tissue or nerve injury in spinal dorsal horn that contribute to the initiation and development of central sensitization. The Institute of Molecular Pharmacology also offers undergraduate education programs.

4. Teaching and Research Achievements

Our research projects have been funded by three grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and one grant from the Scientific Research Foundation for the Returned Overseas Chinese Scholars. Professor Hu Xiaodong has also received fund from the Program for “New Century Excellent Talents in University” by the Ministry of Education in 2008. Most of our research achievements have been published in SCI journals includingPain, J Neurochem, Neuropharmacology, etc.

5. Discipline Construction and Talent Cultivating

The Institute of Molecular Pharmacology prefers qualified applicants to our graduateeducation program in Neuropharmacology. So far, five students have graduated and awarded master’s degree, and the other 7 students are pursuing master’s degree.
