“Thousand Talents Program” specially-appointed Prof. He Chansheng attends 12th International Congress of Ecology

On August, 20th to 25th, The 12th International Congress of Ecology (INTECOL) was held at the National Convention Center in Beijing. About 2600 representatives from 73 countries and regions including China, the United States, Britain, Germany and France attended the meeting, which encompassed numerous ecologists who have extensive international influence like Fu Bojie, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. James S. Clark at American’s Duke University, and Prof. William Sutherland at University of Cambridge. At the same time, Thousand Talents Program specially-appointed prof. He Chansheng was invited to lead a team to participate in the conference. He also worked in LZU School of Resources and Environment, Key Laboratory of Environment Education Ministry in West China, and served as the director at Research Center for Science and Water Resources in the dry area.

At the General Assembly, Prof. He gave a special speech titled "Watershed Science and Global Water Sustainability", introducing the present situation of global water resources pollution and shortage, as pointing out the highlight and challenge of future eco-hydrology study. Meanwhile, he presided over the branch meeting of "Ecological hydrology and watershed management" with another speech titled "Spatial Variability in Soil Hydraulic Conductivity and Related Hydrological Response in the Heihe River Watershed Northwest China". which aroused high concern and heated discussion of participators. Moreover, LZU associate Prof. Gong Jie and Zhang Baoqing also gave presentations respectively titled "Spatial Variation of Biodiversity in the Bailongjiang Watershed of Southern Gansu Based on Invest Model and Landscape Pattern Index" and "Development and Evaluation of a Physically Based Multiscalar Drought Index: The Standardized Moisture Anomaly Index".

International Congress of Ecology, founded in 1967 by INTECOL, is held every four years. It is the highest and most influential academic conference in the field of global ecology. Themed as "ecology and ecological civilization in the changing environment", this conference aims to call for ecological workers to focus on ecological civilization and sustainable development, thus jointly promoting the development of ecology and social harmony.
