LZUers attend “ISRM International Symposium-Rock Mechanics for Africa” in South Africa

“ISRM International Symposium-Rock Mechanics for Africa”, hosted by International  Society for Rock Mechanics(ISRM) and undertook by ISRM national team of South Africa and  Institute of Mining and Metallurgy in South Africa, was held in Cape Town International Convention Centre from October 1st to 6th . At the invitation of  organization committee, Prof. Chen Wenwu and Associate Prof. Zhang Jingke from School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics of LZU attended this symposium.

Totally, 245 experts, scholars, engineering technical personnel and researchers from 25 countries including South Africa, China, America, Korea and France attended this conference, of which there are 43 Chinese representatives. As secretary-general of ISRM Commission on Preservation of Ancient Sites, Chen Wenwu hosted the 11th Meeting and workshop of the ISRM Commission on Preservation of Ancient Sites (CPAS), introducing recent progress in their work. He also delivered an oral academic report titled with “A Model Characterizing Deterioration at Earthen Sites of the Ming Great Wall in Qinghai Province, China”. And during the report he introduced the advancement in model research of deterioration of the Ming Great Wall in Qinghai province, China, which aroused present scholars interests. Then, Zhang Jingke delivered an oral academic report named “Study on technique of fully grouted bolt and its anchoring mechanism in earthen sites” as well, introducing the research progress of technique of fully grouted bolt and its anchoring mechanism in earthen sites in detail. These two professors discussed thoroughly with other participants.

During the whole symposium, Chen Wenwu and Zhang Jingke were also involved in other academic reports relating to cultural relics protection and conducted exchanges.
