LZU’s 3 outcomes win 2018 China National Science and Technology Award

On the morning of January 8, 2019,the 2018 China National Science and Technology Awards Conference was held in Beijing by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council. Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, Li Keqiang, premier of the State Council, Wang Huning and Han Zheng, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau attended the conference and presented China’s top science award to the winners. The three achievements completed by Lanzhou University won such an Award. Among them, two of them are the second prize of the National Natural Science Award and one is the second prize of the National Technology Invention Award. As the honor unit, Lanzhou University ranked 13th among universities in China. Before the ceremony, the nation leaders cordially met the Academician Chen Fahu, Professor Zhou Youhe and Professor Hu Bin from Lanzhou University.

The Second Prize of National Natural Science Award: Characteristics and Mechanism of Multi-Scale Climate Change in Arid Areas of Central Asia (Completed by Chen Fahu, Chen Jianhui, Li Jinbao, Huang Wei, Jin Liya)

The "Characteristics and Mechanism of Multi-Scale Climate Change in the Arid Region of Central Asia", led by Academician Chen Fahu, won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award. The project found that the arid zone in central Asia has met a climate change—the “westerly gales mode” that significantly differs from the monsoon region on the sub-orbital scale. The outcome of the research demonstrated the applicability of the “westerly gales mode” on the century inter-decadal time scale, and revealed the physical mechanism of "westerly gales mode".  The project also helped promote the understanding of the spatial differentiation of China's climate and environment from “static” to “dynamic”, which can provide scientific support for the future ecological restoration and the environmental improvement of the arid area, especially the successful implementation of the “Belt and Road” initiative.

Second Prize of State Science and Technology Award: Machanics Study of Multi-field Coupling Characteristics and Rules of Wind-bome Sand Movement (persons in charge: Zhou Youhe, Zheng Xiaojing, Huang Ning)

The project of “Machanics Study of Multi-field Coupling Characteristics and Rules of Wind-bome Sand Movement” led by Pro. Zhou Youhe won the Second Prize of State Science and Technology Award. Facing the serious environmental issues like desertification and sandstorm, the project focused on the addressing of such common difficulties as the researches of randomness, multi-field coupling, nonlinearity and cross-scale, and further put forward a practicable research method. These scholars firstly conducted experiment on wind-bome sand and electricity, proposed high-precision method of the experiment data processing and finally established new theoretical model and its quantitative calculation methods. They have solved the long-standing problem of huge disparity in the theoretical prediction and released the characteristics and rules of wind-bome sand and electricity, providing solid support for the settlement of product breakdown. Thus, the project is evaluated as the great progress and significant contribution.

Second Prize of State Science and Technology Invention Award: Key Techniques of Psychophysiological Information Perception and its Application (People in charge: Hu Bin, Xu Xiangmin, Zheng Wenming, Li Mi, Zhao Qinglin)

The project of “Key Techniques of Psychophysiological Information Perception and its Application” led by Hu Bin won the Second Prize of State Science and Technology Invention Award. In view of problems of psychophysiological information in gaining, quantization and analysis, the “psychophysiological calculation” was put forward. These scholars invented the quantitative assessment technology on the depressive disorder of multiple psychophysiological information from multimode sensing signal of general physiological signal, voice, expression and eye movement. Also, they have made great breakthrough in quantization of perception of psychophysiological information and continuous monitoring. The core technology has been applied in several companies as well as medical institutions and made prominent economic and social profits.
