LZU Delegation Visits Universities and Institutions in Spain

From November 7 to 9, led by Party Secretary of CPC Lanzhou University (LZU) Committee Ma Xiaojie, the delegation visited Nebrija University (NU), Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) and Barcelona School of Management, Pompeu Fabra University (UPF-BSM), Spain.

At NU, Party Secretary Ma Xiaojie met with NU Rector Prof. José Muñiz and exchanged in-depth views on cooperation between the two universities.

He stated that LZU and NU have already conducted in-depth consultations and reached broad consensus on student exchange as well as cooperation in language education. And he hoped this visit would be an opportunity to further strengthen the collaboration and communication between the two universities to make contribution to cultural and people-to-people exchange between China and Spain. Prof. José Muñiz expressed that NU would work together with LZU to foster higher education and people-to-people exchange between China and Spain.

During the meeting, Party Secretary Ma Xiaojie and Prof. José Muñiz jointly inaugurated the Center for Chinese Studies of NU, and signed agreements on student exchange and the construction of Business Spanish Test Center in LZU.

At UCM, Party Secretary Ma Xiaojie met with Vice-Rector for International Relations and Cooperation Prof. María del Rosario Cristóbal Roncero. Both sides conducted in-depth exchange on the construction of Center for Spanish Studies in LZU, cooperation in Spanish and Chinese language teaching, joint cultivation of talents as well as academic and scientific research in medicine. Vice-Rector María expressed that UCM attaches great importance to the collaboration with China all along and hoped to carry out in-depth cooperation with LZU on the basis of the mutual development vision and benefits.

At UPF-BSM, the delegation met with UPF former Rector Prof. Jaume Casals i Pons and heads of UPF-BSM. Both sides reached consensus on joint cultivation of talents as well as teachers and students exchange in economy and management.

During the visit to Consulate General of People's Republic of China in Barcelona, the delegation met with Acting Consul General Hu Aimin. Party Secretary Ma Xiaojie gave an overview of LZU and its international cooperation and expressed his wishes to further promote intensive collaboration with universities within the consular district with the support of the Consulate General in Barcelona. Acting Consul General Hu Aimin stated that LZU is a top university in China and the Consulate General in Barcelona will spare no effort to support the cooperation between LZU and universities in Spain.

The delegation also met with Vice Minister Prof. José Manuel Pingarrón Carrazón, Ministry of Universities of Spain. Party Secretary Ma Xiaojie said that on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative, LZU, as the initiator of the University Alliance of the Belt and Road (UAB&R), will take the development of China-Spain comprehensive strategic partnership as an opportunity to deepen cooperation with Spanish higher education institutions, explore new areas of collaboration, and enhance the cultural and educational exchanges between China and Spain. Vice Minister José Manuel Pingarrón Carrazón said that Spain puts a high premium on the exchange with China. The Ministry is committed to the friendly exchange between Spain and China all the time, and will work closely with LZU to play a more active role in educational exchange. During the meeting, Party Secretary Ma Xiaojie issued an Appointment Letter of visiting professor of LZU to Vice Minister José. The head of Gansu Chamber of Commerce in Spain also participated in the visit.

During the visit to Spain, the delegation also held an Information Session for Global Professionals to introduce the recruitment policy for high-level talents who are interested in applying for teaching positions in LZU.
