The continuing education of Lanzhou University(LZU) was developed in 1958. In 1980, LZU established the night school for adults; in 1984, it developed self-taught examination education; in 1986, it established the Adult Education Department; in 1987, it held correspondence education for adults. In 1991, LZU was authorized to found the Adult Education School by the State Education Commission, which held self-taught examination education characterized by professional application in 1993. In 2000, LZU was approved to pilot the online education by the Ministry of Education, and established the Network Education School in the same year. The Adult Education School was renamed as School of Continuing Education in 2001 which developed distance education in 2003. In 2013, the two schools were incorporated and emerged as School of Network and Continuing Education.
The School of Network and Continuing Education is an educational entity as well as a management department, which is responsible for the undergraduate and specialty degree education including networking education, adult education(spare-time model and correspondence model), and self-taught higher education examinations. Moreover, the school undertakes all kinds of training tasks of non-degree education.
The recent years have witnesses its brilliant achievements. In 2015, the school won the “2015 Famed Networking Education School” in Tencent’s “Resound China” annual education rankings, and the “2015 China’s Influential School of Networking Education” awarded by the Xinhuanet “Voice of China’s Education” ceremony.
In 2016, the school obtained the “China’s Influential School of Networking Education for Higher Education” awarded by China International Distance Education Conference; “Powerful School of Networking Education” awarded by Tencen; “Influential School of Networking Education” and “Special Contribution Award for Lifetime Education” recognized by Xinhuanet. Of the awards, one research result was selected into the excellent cases database of the higher education for modern distance education; two teachers were chosen as the first batch(20 teachers in total) of “China’s Top Teacher in the Distance and Continuing Education Industry”.
In 2017, the school was selected as the “2017 Powerful School of Networking Education” which was on the list of Tencent’s “Resound China” annual education rankings, and the “2017 Brand-Influential School of Networking” in the 8th “Voice of China’s Education” Forum of Xinhuanet. Moreover, it obtained the honor of “2017 China’s Most Influential School”, with one creative project selected into “2017 Excellent Cases Database of the Higher Education for Modern Distance Education.
In 2018, the School won the honor of “Benchmarking School for Continuing Education Informatization” awarded by China Education Technology Association.

The school has 121 off-campus networking education studying centers, including 90 self-build studying centers, 29 Ao Peng public service systems and 4 Hong Cheng public service systems, and 19 continuing education teaching stations distributed in 20 provinces.
Non-degree Education
Guided by the development strategy of valuing brand construction, the school takes advantage of the Belt and the Road Initiative, attaching great importance to the training of the party and governmental leading officials at all level, mid- and high-level enterprise positions and professional and technical personnel to meet the demand of society. In addition, in light of LZU’s powerful advantages of schooling, scientific research and faculty, the school integrates the social educational resources, forming its particular training model with the characteristics of cross-disciplines, integration between school and enterprise, east-west interaction, combination of producing and studying and customized cultivation. As a result, the school successfully builds a series of training projects with regional advantages and industry characteristics.
