① Basic Information
Located in Yuzhong Campus, Lanzhou University Museum was founded in September, 2009 coincided with the 100th university anniversity. It covers an area of 9,600 square meters with 5,000 square meters for exhibition hall and its name was inscribed by Mr. Ouyang Zhongshi. The museum collects 230,000 art treasures distributing in six basic exhibition halls, including School History Exhibition Hall, Historical Relics Exhibition Hall, Ancient Extinct Life Fossil Exhibition Hall, Specimen of Animals and Plants Exhibition Hall (Biology and Environment Science Popularization Exhibition Hall), Yellow River Stegodon Exhibition Hall and Culture and Art Exhibition Hall.
② Function
LZU Museum is a key base for the heritage of LZU culture and spirit and talents cultivation. It attaches great importance to foster students, nurture talents and study related historic materials, playing an important role in art treasure protection, exhibition, social education, teaching research, external publicity and cooperation.
③ Introduction to six exhibition hall
- School History Exhibition Hall
It covers an area of 760 square meters focusing on demonstrating LZU’s splendorous development over 100 years since its establishment in 1909.
- Biology and Environment Science Popularization Exhibition Hall
Occupying 1,200 square meters, this hall mainly shows the unique physiognomy of Gansu and rich specimen of animals and plants in Gansu.
- Historical Relics Exhibition Hall
Historical Relics Exhibition Hall covers an area of 520 square meters, mainly exhibiting four kinds of relics including pottery, bronze ware, porcelain and ware with a number of over 500, among which Gansu coloured pottery is a highlight.
- Ancient Extinct Life Fossil Exhibition Hall
Covering an area of 520 square meters, the exhibition hall exhibits fossil specimens with a number of more than 100.
- Yellow River Stegodon Exhibition Hall
Occupying 410 square meters, it mainly shows the well-known fossil skeleton model of Yellow River Stegodon.
- Culture and Art Exhibition Hall
The hall covers an area of 760 square meters emphatically demonstrating the art treasures, Dunhuang culture and its academic achievements, and host all kinds of art provisional show.
④ Other Functional Areas
In addition to the main functional areas for exhibition hall, Lanzhou University Museum also engages in the following function.
- Provisional exhibition hall
It hosts provisional exhibitions refering to revolutionary history, culture and art, calligraphy and paintings and handicrafts, etc.
- Study and research areas for faculty and students
It provides limited but enough areas for faculty and students to study, read, research and conduct academic discussion.
- Multifunctional lecture hall
It can host 30 to 40 person to deliver academic report, conduct academic communication and broadcast video materials.
- Teaching research
It established classification and recognition platform based on the data resources of 210,000 animal and plant specimens to conduct recognition teaching and classification research of animal and plant specimens.
