According to the announcement issued by Gansu Provincial Sci.& Tech. Department recently, the project of "Gansu Provincial Key Laboratory for Western Mineral Resources" presided over by Prof. Niu Yaoling from the School of Geological Sciences and Mineral Resources was approved and listed in Gansu provincial key laboratory construction plan in 2012, which indicates the construction of the first Gansu provincial key laboratory on resources at Lanzhou University comes into new stage.
Aiming at national and Gansu provincial development strategic goals and major scientific and technological problems during the great western development of mineral resources exploration, the laboratory mainly works on the lithosphere, magmatism and tectonic evolution and metallogeny process controlling, system formation and evolution of basins and mountains, development and utilization of petroleum and natural gas, etc., in order to promote the western exploration, development and utilization of mineral resources, and to contribute to the economic and social development of Gansu province and China.
