The famous journal PNAS (Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America) published the research results from Lanzhou University (LZU), entitled by “Models and tests of optimal density and maximal yield for crop plants” (Click here to read the paper :http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2012/08/08 /1210955109.full.pdf+html ) on Aug. 13, 2012. This comprehensive journal publishes the important findings covering natural, economical and other researches. Authors found ‘how to obtain relatively simple macrodescriptors of crop growth that are applicable across diverse species’, and their results ‘provide the surprising result that the single variable of maximal size at maturity can be used to project major crop properties such as maximal yield’. Two co-first authors are Jianming Deng from State Key Laboratory of Grassland Agricultural Ecological System/the School of Life Science School of Life Science (LZU) and Jinzhi Ran from School of Physical Science and Technology, LZU. Prof. Liu Jianquan from LZU and Prof. James Brown from University of New Mexico are the corresponding authors of this research. This is the third time for Prof. Liu Jianquan’s research team to publish their achievements in PNAS in 2012.
