From September 23rd to 27th , Chou Jifan, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and honorary Dean of School of Atmospheric Science in Lanzhou University successively participated in the symposium on scientific research project and undergraduate course teaching and went to Yuzhong campus twice to deliver 6 hours’ classes on the course of “The Introduction to Atmospheric Science” for the freshmen in 2012. Chou Jifan called on at the symposium that it is necessary to develop the discpiline of atmospheric science in Lanzhou University to be distinctive as a brand through all the unremitting efforts in its true sense.
On September 25th , it is the famous atmospheric scientist in China Mr. Chou Jifan who taught “The Introduction to Science” as the first lecture of the freshmen majoring in atmospheric science in 2012. In class, the first topic they discussed is why atmospheric science is interesting,worth learning and worth contributing. He explained to students the commen sense relevant to atmospheric science in simple words and then focused on the topics such as the importance of atmospheric science, frontier science and technology related to meteorological subject, and the influence of human activity on natural disasters in detail and vividly with both pictures and texts.
On the morning of September 26th , the School of Atmospheric Science held a symposium among young teachers in the school at Room 0312 in Qiyun Building. Academician Chou Jifan was invited to attend the symposium. The Dean of the school Huang Jianping presided the symposium. Those present were secretary of Lei Xiaoyun, the party committee, standing assistant dean Wang Shigong, assistant dean Zhang Lei, and young and middle-aged teachers of the school. At the symposium, young teachers raised questions and confused questions confronted at their own teaching work, then Mr. Chou brought forward solutions and carried out extensive exchanges.
At the symposium, academician Chou Jifan said, young teachers are at their busy age, and they have a lot of things to deal with in terms of family, personal things and work. In teaching, they must prepare a lot before class so that they could be well-received by students; in scientific research, they need to spend a lot of time on reading and writing research papers.Then after a few years, this generation of young teachers will become the hard core of the school in Lanzhou University. Therefore, now the leaders of the school at all levels must offer the youth teachers more love, tolerance, patience, advice and help, and the two sides jointly promote all the undertakings of the school in the future.
