On November 24, 2012, the finals of “Esri Cup”Chinese College Students GIS Software Development Competition in 2012 was held at Capital Normal University. After fierce competition, the work named “Fishery Management System Based on WebGIS” collaboratively which is conducted by Xue Chenguang and Zhai Shichang,undergraduates majoring in geographic information system from School of Earth, and Environmentl Sciences and directed by Nian Yanyun from the Institute of Remote Sensing and GIS, was awarded the third prize.
It is reported that more than 2000 teachers and students participated the competition launched in March. After competing with the competitors from Wuhan University, Central South University, China University of Mining in the finals, the work of Lanzhou University won the third prize for its excellent creativity, friendly interface, and perfect system function, which is the first time for Lanzhou University to come into the final and win the award in the competition.
"Esri Cup" Chinese College Students GIS Software Development Competition is a nationwide competition on GIS and a top level software development competition in the industry of GIS, hosted by China Geographic Information System Association and organized by Esri China Information Technology Co., Ltd., together with some domestic famous universities since 2004 in order to stimulate students' enthusiasm in learning, application and exchanging GIS technology, strengthen students' creativity and practical ability, and promote GIS technology popularization in China.
