In the middle of December, 10 MTCSOL (Master’s Program of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages) students from the School of Chinese Language and Literature, trained and selected by Hanban (Confucius Institute Headquarters) at Lanzhou University, arrived in Tbilisi, capital city of Georgia and started a half-year internship for Chinese international education teaching work., which is the first time for MTCSOL Students at LZU to work as Chinese teaching volunteers in Georgia.
After a short rest in residence accommodated by Chinese Embassy in Georgia and Confucius Institute of Free University of Tbilisi, the students took a one-week language training offered by TLG Program all in English, concerning Georgia language, teaching method, program introduction, security, city tour, cross-cultural communication, medical insurance, etc., which created a good beginning for students to undertake the Chinese language teaching program, and they were highly spoken by Georgia part
On the afternoon of Dec. 14, Chen Jianfu, ambassador of Chinese Embassy in Georgia met with the first batch of Chinese teaching volunteers, together with other diplomats such as counselor Zheng Wei and Wu Wanpei Chinese director of Confucius Institute of Free University of Tbilisi.
It is reported that the program for Chinese teaching volunteers to Georgia started negotiations in 2011 and has been inaugurated since the Ministry of Education in Georgia involved Chinese into the national education system and approved to teach Chinese lessons in primary and secondary schools. The first 10 volunteers of our university will separately teaching in 7 public high schools, 2 private middle schools and Tbilisi State University for half a year. Hopefully, the implementation of the program will effectively promote Chinese teaching in Georgia.
