Spring festival celebration in Confucius Institute of KNUN

On February 8th, the 28th of the twelfth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, New Year’s atmosphere was everywhere at Confucius Institute. Surrounding by the red lanterns, red fans and red Chinese cheongsams, the Spring Festival Gala was held here at National University of Nationalities of Kazakhstan, everyone was overwhelmed by the New Year’s ambience, celebrating the coming of the New Year.

Around 16:30, Du Dewen, the Consul-General at Alma-Ata and the deputy of the President’s office of KNUN, accompanied by the school leaders, toured the new campus of Confucius Institute. At 17 o’clock, the Consul-General presented a gift to our institute for our contribution in the transmission of Chinese culture. In particular, this bronze named “Golden Century” as to show our achievements in Chinese teaching in the past two years, also as an encouragement and expectations for our future development.

Prior to the start of the celebration, the attending guests gave an opening speech. The Consul-General delivered in Russian that he hold high expectations on the students who are learning Chinese, though it’s a difficult language, yet seeing more and more young students start to learn Chinese is very delightful. Since China and Kazakhstan are good neighbors and friends, there is a better future for both of our countries.

There is a wide range of performances in the show, be it classical Chinese songs or traditional Kazakhstani musical instruments, together with short acts featuring humorous language and Chinese related content, all impressed the audience very much. The celebration ended in a beautiful song by a Kazakhstani girl.

All the guests and students spent a vey enjoyable night together celebrating the New Year.
