On the afternoon of June 24th, the decision on LZU’s president adjustment made by the central committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council, was announced at the faculty conference. According to the decision, Prof. Wang Cheng is appointed as the new president of LZU instead of the former LZU president Prof. Zhou Xuhong.
Brief Introduction to Prof. Wang Cheng:
Prof. Wang Cheng, born in 1957 in Wuhan, Hubei, doctoral supervisor, is both a member of the party committee of LZU and LZU president (at minister level) at present. After graduating from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in 1981 and majoring in Engineering Mechanics, he taught at HUST in 1982 and studied in America in the same year. He received doctoral degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1986, and outbound as a postdoctoral fellow from the University of Illinois in 1988.
After returning to China in 1988, he successively held the offices of the deputy dean of the graduate school, vice president , the dean of the School of Hydropower and Digital Engineering, and provost at HUST. Afterwords, he was appointed as president of Hohai University in February 2009 and president of LZU in June 2013.
He is engaged in basic theory and application technology research in the related field of hydropower energy for a long time and good at in hydropower project construction and safe operation of the electrical engineering and management. Up to now, he has published a lot of important innovative work, such as 2 acdemic books and over 230 papers. He also won a great many science and technology progress prizes at the national and provincial level, the application of which to engineering has gained huge social benefit and a economic benefit of 1.5 billion yuan RMB.
At present, he is a standing director of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, vice director of Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society, chairman of the higher education branch of the association of Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Education , chairman of the Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of Jiangsu province, chairman of the Vibration Engineering Society of Hubei province, deputy editor of “Water Resources and Power”, part-time member of science and technology committee of the Chinese people's liberation army general armaments department, and expert of "863" plan.
