Another two state-level international science & technology cooperation bases approved at LZU

According to the notices from Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, “the International Joint Research Centre on the Arid Environmental Changes in Central East Asia”, which is in the charge of Professor Chen Fahu from the Key Laboratory of Western China’s Environmental Systems (Ministry of Education), is approved as a State-Level International Joint Research Centre; “the International Cooperation Research Centre on the Ubiquitous Affective Computing about the Population of Western China”, which is in the charge of Professor Hu Bin from the MOE Engineering Research Center of Open Source Software and Real Time System, is approved as a State-Level International Science And Technology Cooperation Demonstration Base. Up to now, LZU boasts three State-Level International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Bases.

“The International Joint Research Centre on the Arid Environmental Changes in Central East Asia” focuses on the international joint research on the uplift and inland aridification of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, drought environmental changes and human adaptation, water cycles in arid areas and surface processes, as well as geological disaster prevention and ecological restoration, aiming to resolve the severe problems of water shortages and geological disasters in China and the Central East Asia.

“The International Cooperation Research Centre on the Ubiquitous Affective Computing about the Population of Western China” is to study the ubiquitous affective computing under the special social and natural background of western regions. The Center is dedicated to relieving the increasingly serious mental, physical and social problems in ethnic minority areas, maintaining stability in these areas, and building a harmonious society.

International Science & Technology Cooperation Base is confirmed by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China. It aims to play a more effective role in promoting and facilitating the international cooperation in science and technology, improving the quality and level of international science and technology cooperation, and boosting national independent innovations.

Up to 2013, there are 38 state-level International Joint Research Centers and 57 state-level International Science & Technology Cooperation Demonstration Bases in China.
