Professor Harley Dickinson, Vice-President of the University of Saskatchewan and professor at the Department of Sociology, visited Lanzhou University at the invitation of School of Philosophy and Sociology and School of Public Health from Dec. 12 to 16.
During the visit, Professor Dickison delivered two lectures entitled “The Status Quo, Challenges and Countermeasures in Canadian Public Health” and “Some Basic Issues in Medical Sociology” on Yuzhong Campus, attracting faculties and more than 300 undergraduates from School of Philosophy and Sociology and School of Public Health.
He paid a visit to the Institute of Sociology & Center of Social and Economic Development Research at LZU, one of the key research bases of humanities, and proposed suggestions on website design and the development of databases for social science research, which, he believed, would significantly promote the social science research of LZU. He also expressed the intention to promote the exchanges and cooperation between the two sides in this respect.
Moreover, Professor Dickinson also discussed cooperative research on food safety with experts of LZU. The two sides decided to carry out joint studies on food safety. Professor Dickinson proposed 5 major issues in international food safety research and recommended 50 articles. Both sides agreed to work together to hold an international symposium on food safety on the basis of the joint research and thus make further explorations into health care and sociology.
