“Voice of Confucius Institute” held in Almaty

The Confucius Institute co-established by Lanzhou University and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held the first “Voice of Confucius Institutes” (a Chinese song contest) in Almaty on Nov. 29. The contest, themed “Music: Our Common Language”, attracted over 50 contestants and audiences from over ten local universities and colleges.

Consul Gao Chen and Consul Miao Fei from the Consulate General of China in Almaty attended the contest as judges.

Before the contest, Consul Gao Chen and Mr. Wang Zheng, the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute, delivered their speeches respectively and wished the teachers and students could know more about China and Chinese culture through Chinese songs and hoped the song could serve as a bridge for the communication between China and Kazakhstan. The songs chosen by contestants included both popular songs and Chinese folk songs.

People of Kazakhstan are fond of and good at music. This one-month contest is highly spoken of and further enhances the influence of the Confucius Institute in the local.
It is reported that the contest will be held every year.
