Academician Qin Dahe won volvo environment prize

2013 Volvo Environment Prize awarding ceremony was held in Stockholm on the evening of Nov. 26. Academician Qin Dahe, an internationally recognized glaciologist and climate scientist, was the first Chinese scientist awarded this prize. The Prize, founded in 1988, is one of the most influential environmental science awards and is for the individuals making outstanding contributions to a sustainable world.

Lena Ek, Swedish Minister of Environment, and Will Steffen, Chairman of the Volvo Environment Prize Jury highly praised Qin's research and achievement.
  
Olof Persson, Chairman of the Volvo Environment Prize Foundation, said he was glad to see a Chinese scientist awarded such a prize and this was the recognition of China’s achievement in environmental protection.

Mr. Chen Yuming, the Chinese ambassador to Sweden, held a reception at the embassy to congratulate Academician Qin on his winning the prize. A total of 250 people including scientists, Swedish government officials and other related persons attended the reception.
