Two alumni of LZU elected as academicians

The Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering released the list of co-opted academicians on Dec. 19. Dr. Feng Xiaoming and Dr. Xia Wenjia, alumni of Lanzhou University, were elected as Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering respectively. LZU CPC Secretary Wang Hansong and President Wang Cheng sent their congratulations.

Dr. Feng Xiaoming studied organic chemistry at LZU from 1981 to 1988 and was awarded the bachelor degree and master degree in Science. Now he is a professor and PhD supervisor at Sichuan University and listed in the Chang Jiang Scholars Program by the Ministry of Education of China. He also wins the award of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and is selected in the New Century Talents Project and the Trans-Century Training Programme Foundation for the Talents by the Ministry of Education of China. Dr. Feng Xiaoming also serves as a member of the Discipline Appraisal Group of the Academic Degree Commission of the State Council.

Dr. Xia Jiawen graduated from the School of Nuclear Science and Technology of LZU and was awarded the bachelor degree in 1987. In 1998 and 2002, he was selected by the “One Hundred Talented People” Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2003, he won the award of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the Nishikawa Prize awarded by the Foundation of Accelerator Sciences of Japan in 2007 for his outstanding achievements and original work in Cooler Storage Ring (CSR) project and the HLHL Prize (Ho Leung Ho Lee Prize) in 2009. Now he serves as the deputy director of Institute of Modern Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the vice chairman of the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou, the vice chairman of China Society of Radiation Protection and the vice secretary of Chinese Nuclear Society. He is also an adjunct professor of University of Science and Technology of China and Lanzhou University. Besides, Dr. Xia Jiawen is an editorial board member of periodical Chinese Physics C, High Power Laser and Particle Beams and Nuclear Techniques.
