Professor Roy Glauber from Harvard University, winner of the 2005 Nobel Prize in Physics, and Ms. Atholie Rosett visited LZU from 12th to 14th April, 2014 at the invitation of Cuiying Honors College and School of Physical Science and Technology.
On April 14th, President Wang met with Professor Glauber at Yifu Science Hall, accompanied by Vice President Pan Baotian and principals of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, School of Physical Science and Technology and Cuiying Honors College.
President Wang expressed his gratitude to Professor Glauber for the wonderful speech and cordial exchange with students. He also introduced the basic situation of LZU, especially the history and conditions of physical science at LZU, and presented national plans on developing basic disciplines, frontier disciplines and economic development projects. He said that the diligent and studious students at LZU longed for Professor Glauber’s further instructions.
The two sides also exchanged views on how to cultivate talents and create a better and fairer environment for them. Both of them believed that good academic environments, excellent teachers and economic advancement played a vital role in talent training.
During the visit, Professor Glauber delivered a lecture “What is quantum optics?” and answered students’ questions. Besides, he also had informal discussions with the students and staff from Cuiying Honors College and School of Physical Science and Technology.
