Prof. Bao Guoxian, Dean of School of Management of LZU, and doctoral candidate Wang Xuejun were invited to attend 2014 ASPA (American Society for Public Administration) Annual Conference in USA and visited several American institutions from March 13 to 22, 2014. During the visit, Prof. Bao communicated with leaders of these institutions and reached consensuses in student exchanged, scientific research, high degree programs, and creative cultural industries, etc.
From March 14 to 17, the delegation attended the 2014 ASPA Annual Conference held in Washington DC, a sub-forum on performance management, responsible government, public sector leadership and collaborative governance, and an exchange meeting for editors of American top public management magazines. Prof. Bao communicated with the delegations from other institutions and introduced the features and latest development in public management research at LZU.
On March 13, Prof. Bao paid a visit to the School of Public Affairs and Administration of Rutgers University and met with Dean Mark Holzer and Deputy Dean Zhang Mengzhong. The two sides reached a consensus on academic information exchange, international conference attendance and staff exchange. After that, Prof. Bao and Dean Holzer discussed cooperative training of undergraduates and graduates including “3+2” program and “4+1” program. The first cooperative program will possibly be carried out in the fall semester of 2014.
After that, the delegation visited the Portland State University (PSU) from March 18 to 20. The two sides discussed EMPA program and some other affairs including admission requirements, teaching mode and quality control. Both agreed to redesign the EMPA project in China. Vice-President Kevin Reynolds expressed that PSU would spare no efforts to strengthen the cooperation with LZU.
On the morning of March 20, Charlie Hales, Mayor of Portland, met with the delegation and introduced in detail how to promote the government performance via “innovation fund”. Prof. Bao hoped for an extensive and intensive cooperation between the two cities in the future.
The ASPA is the largest and most prominent professional public administration association in USA. It has approximately 8,000 members. This is the first time for teachers from LZU to attend the ASPA Annual Conference. This visit strengthens the cooperation and communication between LZU and American universities, and enhances the international cooperation, student quality improvement, scientific research and international reputation of the School of Management.
