[Ta Kung Pao]:Opening up is the Basis for the Revival of the Silk Road——An Interview with Dr. Binglin Zheng

On the morning of 21st, the media group of our paper visited Binglin Zheng, the expert of Silk Road culture research and the Dean of School of History and Culture of Lanzhou University.

“The Silk Road has been existed from long time ago,”Dr.Zheng said. He explained
that the archaeological discoveries have proved that Gansu Majiayao Neolithic culture
and Zhangjiachuan tombs of the Warring States period more or less reflect the culture exchange style between China and foreign countries. The unearthed glass works of Zhangjiachuan tombs, which were objects from the West Asia, had proved the early contact between Gansu and the West Asia region from 300 B. C..

The reason why the visit of Qian Zhang to the Western Regions is so significant is
that his visit set down the unstable folk trade routes into the Silk Road, an official
diplomatic channel of communication between states.

The visit of Qian Zhang to the Western Regions, which unblocked the Silk Road, has
directly resulted in the thrive of Dunhuang, and has made it into the intersection
center of the four ancient civilizations. Spices, fruits, medicine, religions and cultures
from all over the world converged here. "At that time, every one in Dunhuang had the international vision over issues, just like the city of Shenzhen in the early period of our reform and opening up. Even doctors advertised themselves as coming back from India, which is similar to the current interaction of TCM and western medicine,"
Dr.Zheng said.

Chinese proposal to build the economic zone of the Silk Road has received responses from many countries, but there are also individual countries and regions lack understanding to it. Dr.Zheng thought it as a normal phenomenon. He suggested a cultural promotion to appeal more people come to China and feel the Chinese sincerity.
