Opening ceremony of “Chinese civilization inheritance & innovation summer camp”

The July 22 witnessed the opening ceremony of the “Chinese Civilization Inheritance and Innovation Summer Camp in Gansu” at the auditorium of Feiyun Building, LZU in cool rain. Cui Pengchong, deputy director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of Gansu Province, Wang Xiaoting, director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office of the Department of Education of Gansu Province, Professor Zheng Acai, director of the Dunhuang Studies Research Center of Nanhua University in Taiwan and others in charge of subprojects were present at the ceremony. Pan Baotian, vice president of LZU, made a speech and presented the flag during the opening ceremony, which was chaired by Wang Yuhua, director of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs.

In his speech, Pan Baotian briefly introduced Lanzhou University and the unique historical, geographical, cultural features of Gansu Province as an important cradle of Chinese civilization, and wished the visiting teachers and students as well as LZU students to “travel, communicate, reflect more often and shoulder more responsibility”.

Cui Pengchong expounded various cultural resources like pottery, grotto and religion in Gansu, added that the Chinese Civilization Innovation Zone combined with a series of exchanges activities with the Taiwan youth helped enhance mutual understanding and inherit the Chinese civilization for people on both sides, and sincerely hoped the young students of Gansu and Taiwan would strengthen exchanges and enhance friendship.

The 2012 graduate student Zhang Duoliang from the School of Law of LZU and Qiu Yiliang from National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan as student representatives made speeches, expressing young students’ expectation of and good wishes for this event.

Then, the host showed the photos and videos of the exchange programs between Lanzhou University and Taiwan universities, which drew applause from the audience.

At the end of the opening ceremony, vice president Pan Baotian presented the commemorative school cards to each leading university of the subprojects in Taiwan, announced the launching of the summer camp and delivered the flag.

The summer camp with the Chinese civilization inheritance and innovation in Gansu as the theme boasts five subprojects, namely, “Historical Sites • Silk Road • Multicultural Education • Heritage Protection • Volunteer Service”, of which the History and Culture School, Students’ Affair Office ,  Philosophy and Sociology School, International Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of LZU are responsible for the respective implementation. 197 students and teachers from Taiwan and 125 LZU students participate in the summer camp.
