The 2014 Annual Summary Meeting of “the Grass Disease Prevention and Control Technology Research and Demonstration” Project supported by the Special Scientific Research Fund of Agricultural Public Welfare Profession of China hosted by Academician Nan Zhibiao was held in Haikou City, Hainan Province, from December 19 to 22. Project participants from 11 colleges and research institutes and 36 graduates attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Li Yanzhong, professor of Lanzhou University.
Huang Zhengen, chief agronomist of the Agriculture Department of Hainan province, and Liu Daoguo, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, were invited to attend the opening ceremony. Huang Zhengen introduced livestock development in Hainan Province; Liu Daoguo talked about the forage breeding; Academician Nan Zhibiao, chief of the project, briefed the achievements of the project in the past two years and main tasks of 2015.
People in charge of research tasks and research team members made reports and assessed the work of others at the end of each report. In the discussion session they talked about the difficulties in implementing the project and proposed countermeasures by brainstorming ideas and also assigned the tasks for 2015. Nan Zhibiao made the summary speech to encourage people to enhance collaboration, share information resources and complete research tasks in 2015.
Delegates visited the Tropical Plant Germplasm Nursery of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, Danzhou Wuzhishan Pig (WZSP) and Black Goat Breeding Base in the Science and Technology Park of the Ministry of Agriculture in Hainan.
Since the project started in 2013, it has carried out general surveys in pasture forage disease and researches in disease surveillance and control technology in the northeast, north, northwest and southwest China, and achieved initial results.
