Unveiling ceremony of “Silk Road economic belt construction research center” held at LZU

On the morning of December 26th, the unveiling ceremony of a major philosophical and social science research base named “Silk Road Economic Construction Research Center” was grandly held in the Shaw Science Museum Auditorium in Lanzhou University, Gansu Province. Lian Ji, Minister of Gansu Provincial Committee and Provincial Publicity Department, President Wang Cheng of Lanzhou University, deputy inspector Zhao Yanhe of the Gansu Provincial Publicity Department, Vice Minister Pan Baotian and Gao Xincai of Lanzhou University attended the ceremony. Heads of related offices of the Provincial Publicity Department and leaders and representatives of teachers and students of related academic disciplines of Lanzhou University also attended the ceremony. The unveiling ceremony was presided over by Vice President Pan Baotian.

Lian Ji referred in his speech that the construction of the new Silk Road economic belt is another strategic goal put forward by the government for the new social state. It was set to meet the needs of digesting excess capacity, ensuring strategic economic security, developing geopolitics and enhancing cultural exchanges. He believed that the new Silk Road economy had five characteristics. First, it is land economy; Second, it is led by China, a major power; Third, it is an out-profit economy; Four, it has a new economic order different fromm the mature economic system in Europe and the United States; Five, it involves comprehensive cooperation in trade, science and technology and transport etc. Lian Ji also put forward his own views and suggestions on the role that Gansu Province shall play in the Silk Road economic belt.

President Wang Cheng of Lanzhou University referred in his speech that the Provincial Publicity Department had invited Lanzhou University to construct the Silk Road Economic Belt Construction Research Center. It is an identification of the research and development capacity and service quality of Lanzhou University. He hoped that all researchers and the research center could work together to follow the national strategy and meet the needs of the golden zone of the “Silk Road economic belt”. President Wang Cheng also encouraged them to expand academic vision, actively carry out multi-disciplinary and multi-area exchanges and cooperation, launch comprehensive and thorough researches on the Silk Road and come up with more practical and valuable research results. The researchers were also expected to work hard to turn the research center into a cooperative innovation center of the Ministry of Education and a national think-tank.

During the ceremony, Lian Ji and Wang Cheng inaugurated the “Construction and Research Center of the Silk Road Economic Belt”.

It is reported that the construction of the major philosophical and social scientific research base in Gansu province is an important step for the development of philosophical and social sciences in Gansu Province. The implementation of the project was started from July, 2014 by the Gansu Provincial Publicity Department. Currently, there are five major research bases, including the “Silk Road Economic Belt Construction Research Center”, “Economic and Social Development Research Center of Ethnic Minority Areas”, “Ecological Construction and Environmental Protection Research Center”, “Innovative Social Governance Research Center of” and “Cultural Industry and New Cultural Industrial Format Development Research Center”. Among them, the “Silk Road Economic Belt Construction Research Center” is constructed by the Lanzhou University.
