Invited by the Environmental Education and Training Division of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Pan Baotian, vice president of LZU, Professor Li Fengmin, Professor Li Xiaogang, Dr. Zhang Feng attend Global Universities Partnership on Environment and Sustainability (GUPES) and World Environmental Education Congress, (WEEC) in Gothenburg, Sweden from June 28 to July 2. Pan Baotian makes presentations on the research progress and international cooperation of LZU in the field of Arid Agroecology.
During the meeting, Pan Baotian and Li Fengmin hold talks with Mahesh Pradhan, director of the UNEP Environmental Education and Training Division. Pan Baotian gives a brief account of LZU, its outstanding disciplines and international exchanges, especially its advantages in Arid Agroecology, Tibetan Plateau, glaciers and disaster researches. Pan Baotian highlights that the LZU Arid Agriculture research team jointly funded by the Ministry of Science and UNEP has achieved abundant results in Arid Agroecology research, demonstration and training in Kenya and Ethiopia and expresses that LZU will further strengthen efforts in this field. Prof. Li Fengmin introduces LZU’s Arid Agroecology technology research and regional ecosystem management and research, and hopes to cooperate with UNEP on a larger scale in order to achieve the sustainable development.
Mahesh Pradhan speaks highly of the contribution of LZU in Arid Agroecology field and particularly the efforts of LZU in arid agriculture development in Africa, hoping that within the framework of LZU-UNEP cooperation memorandum, cooperation between the two sides will be further strengthened in personnel training and scientific research, etc., to extend Arid Agroecology research results to similar areas of the world and promote win-win cooperation and sustainable development.
Finally, Pan together with Mahesh Pradhan states that the two sides would continue to strengthen cooperation in research trials and demonstration in the field of arid agriculture and ecological environment in Africa, Central Asia and other regions in the future, and deepen cooperation in personnel training and academic education, expanding scope of bilateral cooperation.
During the WEEC Conference, Pan and Professor Wu Jiang, President of GUPES and Vice President of Tongji University, hold informal talks, exchanging views in international cooperation, personnel training, academic research, and international students’ enrollment.
