The 13th International Paleolimnology Symposium (IPS2015) was held at LZU on August 4th. More than 300 experts and scholars from over 10 countries including China, the United States, Canada, Germany, Britain and Australia participated in the conference. Prof. John Smol, president of International Paleolimnology Association (IPA) and Prof. Wang Sheng, on behalf of IPA and Lanzhou University, started the meeting with speeches to welcome the guests. Prof. Chen Fahu, from the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences made a committee work report. The opening ceremony was chaired by Shen Ji, director of Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology.
Prof. Chen Fahu, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, made a presentation entitled "Research on Ancient Lakes and East Asian Summer Monsoon Rainfall Fluctuations Recorded since the Last Deglaciation in China ".
The 13th International Paleolimnology held every three years Symposium is organized in China, Asia for the first time. With "Climate Changes from the Perspective of Paleolimnology " as the theme, the conference brings together the top domestic and foreign scientists who are actively involved in the academic studies in relevant fields carry out in-depth and detailed discussions on the issues of ancient lakes and global changes, so as to jointly cope with the threat of global change, make evaluation and prediction and provide professional observation and reflection. The Symposium consists of 6 academic reports and 128 breakout sessions. The conference serves to strengthen the links between domestic and foreign academic institutions in different countries and regions and promote in-depth exchanges among scholars in the field of lake science and global changes research, in order to further enhance the international influence of Chinese scholars in related academic areas and conduct researches on global changes and limnology.
