Recently, the US Thomson Reuters Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) issued the “Highly Cited Researchers 2015”. Professor Li Wantong from the School of Mathematics and Statistics, Lanzhou University was elected again after 2014.
According to the report, 2975 scientists from 21 areas, including materials, chemistry, mathematics and engineering etc. are enlisted on the list. There are 148 Chinese scientists, among which 79 work at universities in Chinese mainland, 34 belong to Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) institutions, 10 from Taiwan universities, 18 from Hong Kong universities, 1 from Macao universities and 6 from the other institutions. 17 are researchers in mathematics.
According to the introduction on Thomson Reuters (http://highlycited.com/), “Highly-Cited Researchers 2015” is based on the ranking of all the papers of natural and social sciences included in the Web of Science (SCI、SSCI) in the last decade and the “Highly Cited Papers” of Essential Science Indicators (ESI), which is an authoritative record of the top 1% highly cited papers in each area.
According to the latest data in ESI database in September, 2015, a total of 168 SCI papers compiled by Lanzhou University are enlisted as Highly Cited Papers. Among the 168 papers, 29 are written by the School of Mathematics and Statistics.
