On May 18, the forum of key middle school principals nationwide was successfully held in the auditorium of Shao Science Hall in the main campus of Lanzhou University. Zhou Xuhong, President of Lanzhou University, An Lizhe ,Vice-President, Li Jing, the Superintendent of Education Department, Gansu Province, Ren Jianjun, Director of the Lanzhou University Selection and Cultivation Office to the Air Force, Wang De’an, Director of Admissions Office of Gansu Higher Learning Institutions, and Zhang Zhaoqin, Director of Teachers Education Department, Gansu Province etc. attended the opening ceremony. Nearly 50 principals from the key middle schools throughout the country were present at this forum. An lizhe, Vice President chaired the opening ceremony.
President Zhou Xuhong gave a detailed account of Lanzhou University. Li Jing briefed himself on the accomplishments achieved in economic construction, social development and education etc. in Gansu Province. An Lizhe , Vice President stated the theme of this forum, i.e. how to give full play to the advantages of independent selecting and enrolling so as to further cultivate the innovative talents. Wang De’an introduced to the principals present at the forum the enrollment and policy concerning higher education of Gansu Province. Ren Jianjun detailed to the principals the selection and cultivation of national defense students as well as scholarship and employment etc.
The theme of this forum was “exploring the model of independent selection and enrollment in higher learning institutions”. The exchange session of the forum was chaired by Xu Pengfei, Director of Teaching Administration Office, Lanzhou University. Representatives from Cuiying School, School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics, School of Journalism and Communication, School of Grassland Science and Technology and School of Philosophy and Sociology etc. profiled the developments and characteristics of their schools. Principals from Affiliated Middle School with Lanzhou University, No 1 Middle School of Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, Changzhou Senior Middle School of Jiangsu Province and Shandong Experiment Middle School etc. shared with each other their ideas regarding how to better conjoin universities and middle schools and to cultivate innovative talents with higher comprehensive qualities. After the meeting, Lanzhou University arranged for further exchanges between the enrollment officers from those schools of the University and principals of the key middle schools. Lastly, delegates were showed around Yuzhong Campus and some relevant laboratories.
It was reported that this forum was one of the specific measures taken to strengthen the study and reform of enrollment and to improve the qualities of enrollments, which will play an important role in the promotion of the University’s impact upon examinees inside and outside Gansu Province, thus enhancing the relationship of the University to the key middle schools throughout the country.
