China Meteorological Administration set up Central Asia Center for Atmospheric Research

To support the strategic layout of the Belt&Road Initiative, the Urumchi regional center of CMA set up Central Asia Center for Atmospheric Research. The consulting conference of the center was held in Yining on June 14th. Academician Chen Fahu of LZU, academician and alumnus Zhang Renhe, Pro. Zhang Lei and Wang Chenhai of the College of Atmospheric Sciences, and Dr. Huang Wei of the college of resources and environment attended the meeting.

Leaders and experts all made their speeches during the meeting,and consulted on several R&D plans of national priority. Chen Fahu introduced the research results of climates and environmental changes in Central Asia and Urumchi in the meeting. Yang Lianmei, director of the research center, made the interpretation on Plans of Scientific Research on Climate of Central Asia, and said the Core Zone of Wind Model in Western China initiated by Chen and Huang and the source of water vapor in the extreme precipitation in Xinjiang have laid solid foundation for the implementation of the plan. Deputies of the meeting carried on in-depth discussions on problems such as how to promote plans of scientific researches on climate of Central Asia, how to push forward the organization of the research center according to the cooperative agreements signed by the local government and CMA.

During the meeting, the meteorological center in Urumchi engaged Chen Fahu and Zhang Renhe for the positions of director and deputy director of the scientific steering committee. Zhang Lei, Wang Chenhai and Huang Wei were also engaged as experts of the committee, and were issued the certificates.
