At the invitation of Gansu Province, Ziad Samedzade, Chairman of Economic Policy and Commercial and Industrial Enterprises Commission of National Parliament of The Republic of Azerbaijan attended the 22nd Lanzhou Investment and Trade Fair, and visited LZU. President Wang Cheng met with the chairman at the VIP room of Student Activity Center in the afternoon on July, 8th.
President Wang introduced the basics and preponderant subjects of LZU at the meeting. He pointed out that LZU was aware of its duty to promote educational cooperation with colleges and scientific institutions from countries along the Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, or the Belt and Road, after the proposal of the Initiative. He then stressed that scholars in LZU spared no effort on the research of Silk Road unceasingly, given the university’s advantageous location on the Belt and its strategic position of being an essential base for the training of high-level innovative talents, basic science research, high technology research and development and high-level decision-making and consult. In 2014, the Research Center of Building Silk Road Economic Belt in Gansu was established at LZU, which aims at becoming a significant think-tank of the province, even the whole country. President Wang hoped that the visit by Chairman Samedzade would be an opportunity to promote the establishment of a stable and lasting educational and scientific partnership between LZU and universities in Azerbaijan.
Chairman Samedzade said that with Azerbaijan located at the center of Eurasia and Silk Road and LZU at an important site of the Belt, President Geidar Aliyev agreed very much to President Xi’s proposal of the Belt and Road Initiative. The chairman added that Azerbaijan would promote the cooperation and communication of various forms between LZU and universities and institutions in Azerbaijan, and invited President Wang and other persons in charge of LZU to visit universities and institutions in Azerbaijan. He also gave a brief introduction to his 20 odd years of research on Chinese economy, from which he believed Azerbaijan would benefit.
