On May 26th, Zhang Wei, consul-general of Chinese Consulate General in Alma-Ata(CCGA) met LZU delegation held by its vice-president, Pan Baotian. During the meeting, Zhang Wei issued awards to Wang Zheng, Chinese Dean of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (AKNU) Confucius Institute co-built with Lanzhou University, and Shi Huizhou, the outstanding Chinese teacher of the Institute, for their prominent contributions in promoting the Chinese-teaching, propagandizing Chinese culture in Kazakhstan, as well as facilitaing the cultural exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.
Wang Zheng and Shi Huizhou, after their arrivals at the Confucius Institute in Alma-Ata in 2012, 2013 respectively, have achieved fruitful results in light of local realities despite various dificulties. They organized many high-level cultural activities, which extended the local influence of the Confucius Institute in a large scale. Solid Chinese-teaching work has been made, with the number of registered students and HSK examinees rising up at the rate of 20% per year. The first HSKK examnation in Kazakstan was held successfully. Together with HSK, HSKK has attracted about 1,200 local students in the two sessions of exams in December, 2015 and March, 2016. They also hammered at the multi-tiered cooperation with departments of Chinese of the local universities and the fostering of the local Chinese teachers. All these have enabled the Confucius Institute to take the leading part in the local Chinese-teaching and to win praise from local parties. Awards gained from AKNU by the Confucius Institute in successive years served as the strong evidence of the high appreciation it received from its Kazakhstan’s paterners. Because of its proactive cooperation with its Chinese partners, espcially with Lanzhou university and its great contribution to local Chinese-education, the Confucius Institute conferred the medals of honor and the certificates to the advanced individuals who have contributed a lot in the building of AKNU, and Wang Zheng was the only Chinese people involved. In May, 2016, International Herald Leader, the subordinate newspaper of Xinhua Press has published the feature for Wang Zheng——Expert in Chinese: Show Chinese Spirit to World, which aroused great social response.
