LZU Pres. Wang Cheng Visits Academic Institutions along “One Belt” & Europe

LZU Pres. Wang Cheng headed a delegation to University Paris Sud (UPS), International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), ITMO University, The Institution of Oriental Studies and Kazan Federal University (KFU) from 17th to 24th in June. Other personages accompanying Pres. Wang Cheng included related officials from LZU International Cooperation & Exchanges Division, The First Hospital, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and School of Pharmacy. 


Pres. Wang Cheng signed with Pres. S.Retailleau “LZU-UPS Agreement for Student Exchanges and Cooperation”

UPS Pres. S.Retailleau met LZU delegation at her office building. Two presidents recalled the cooperation between two universities in student exchanges and scholar visiting since 2011. Pres. Wang Cheng expressed his hope that on the basis of constant student exchanges, two universities could work to initiate the cooperation in scientific research projects of related subjects as a way of pushing for “the world-class university and the first-class disciplines”. This proposal for cooperation was unanimously favored by officials from UPS. Thus, 6 officials in charge of related disciplines exchanged their opinions on cooperation contents in which they were interested. After the meeting, Pres. Wang Cheng and Lecombre, on behalf of two parties, signed “LZU-UPS Cooperation Agreement”.

Pres. Wang Cheng visited LZU student representatives studying at UPS

During his visit in France, Pres. Wang Cheng met members from academic committee of LZU Chunhui Plan Base, from China Scientists and Engineers Association throughout France (ASICEF) and LZU student representatives studying in France respectively. He mainly introduced to them the recent development and future plan of LZU, especially LZU talent introduction policies and measures. These policies and measures encouraged a part of overseas students to contribute to LZU after their hard study aboard once they were recommended by alumni as the top-level talents of whom LZU were in urgent need. Moreover, after the negotiation, LZU will sign with ASICEF the cooperation agreement framework in order to encourage more overseas scholars to conduct academic communication, innovation and entrepreneurship at LZU.

LZU officials discussed with IARC experts the concrete issues of cooperation

Pres. Wang Cheng exchanged in-depth views with Christopher P.Wild, director of IARC at this agency. Their negotiation will bring for LZU the deep cooperation with IARC on “Gansu early gastric cancer survey and early gastric cancer marker screening project”. This project will serve as a start for deep cooperation in the epidemiology investigation, the study of related mechanism and control strategies of high-incidence malignant tumor in western China. Frequent cooperation will also be expanded to the fields of public hygiene and preclinical medicine. Moreover, IARC will provide professional training for experts of related fields from LZU. During the visit, 8 experts and related project leaders from IARC negotiated on cooperation details with officials from  The First Hospital and International Cooperation & Exchanges Division of LZU, consensus reached eventually.

Prof. Popova, director of the institute sent a book to Pres. Wang Cheng: Dunhuang: research perspective and problems of the second hundred years

Pres. Wang Cheng met Prof. Popova from St. Petersburg University, also the director of The Institute of Oriental Studies at this institute. Prof. Popova introduced in detail to Pres. Wang Cheng the compilation of key documents at her institute and recent outcomes of related jointed research with LZU Institute of Dunhuang Studies. Pres. Wang Cheng expressed his compliment to the existing achievements and his hope for close cooperation between Popova’s institute with LZU “One Belt One Road” Research Center and Institute of Dunhuang Studies, and the international cooperation with universities and scientific institution, especially with the high-level experts from related universities in central Asia. Prof. Popova applauded for this suggestion from Pres. Wang Cheng. She expressed that her institute would negotiate on detailed issues of cooperation with related officials from LZU Institute of Dunhuang Studies to collectively contribute more to the educational cooperation and Dunhuang studies with countries along “One Belt One Road”.

Pres. Wang Cheng signed with Vladimir Vassili “LZU-ITMO University Cooperation Agreement”

Pres. Wang Cheng signed “LZU-ITMO University Cooperation Agreement” with Prof. Vladimir Vassili, Pres. of ITMO University at this university. The two parties expressed that as the leading colleges of Shanghai Cooperation Organization, two universities will on the basis of SCO cooperation framework, further expand their scientific cooperation on fronts of chemistry, pharmacy and medicine, and launch short-term student exchange projects as a way of enhancing the interaction and comprehension among youths from the two countries. During the meeting, related officials from two parties exchanged in-depth views on pharmacy, chemistry and medicine, and visited the scientific museum which shows the outcomes of industry-university-research cooperation in the cross-disciplines of IT technology, mechanism and optics.

Visit to the Museum of Kazan Federal University

Pres. Wang Cheng met Radebaugh, vice-president of KFU in charge of external affairs. The two parties agreed that in the light of “One Belt One Road” proposed by President Xi Jinping, the two universities should strengthen the educational and cultural cooperation in the related spheres. The cooperative projects including scientific cooperation, student exchanges, Dual Degree Programs and jointed summer school will be gradually implemented. Jointed labs and research centers will be built. Scientific cooperation platform will be proactively established. All these will result in the boom of innovation and entrepreneurship, and the rapid transformation of scientific outcomes. LZU delegation members and leaders from the related schools of KFU discussed in detail how to employ two parties’ advantages on scholar exchanges, talent fostering, teaching, scientific research and long-term and short-term expert communication, thus aiming at pushing for the building of “the first-class disciplines” in the world. Related officials from LZU Schools of Information Science and Engineering deeply exchanged opinions on cooperation with Maxim, director of KFU Intelligent Robot Department. After the meeting, the two universities signed “LZU-KFU Cooperation Agreement”. During the visiting, Pres. Wang Cheng, on behalf of LZU, sincerely invited the related officials from schools and colleges which he has visited to participate in the Dunhuang Silk Road International Cultural Exposition in September this year and to make keynote speeches on main forums held by LZU at the appointed time.

From 15th to 16th in June, some members of LZU delegation made the initial visit to Sweden Skovde University and Jönköping University. Talent fostering, scholar visiting, student exchanges and scientific cooperation were discussed during the meeting. Members of LZU delegation, entrusted by Pres. Wang Cheng, signed with Skovde University “Student Exchanges Cooperation Agreement”, and with Jönköping University “LZU- Jönköping University Cooperation Agreement”.
