From April 19th to April 24th, Professor David Mburu, the dean of Faculty of Agriculture of JKUAT (Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology), and his group visited Lanzhou University. On the morning of April 22th, vice-president of LZU Pan Baotian met the visitors in VIP room of the science museum and unveiled the plaque for China-Kenya Joint Research Center for Arid Agricultural Ecosystem.
During the conferenceg, Professor Pan Baotian briefly introduced the basic information, discipline superiority and achievements in scientific research of Lanzhou University. He said that the two sides had continued to strengthen cooperation in the field of dry-land agriculture ecology since 2013 and that some research results had significantly influenced Africa's food security and the sustainable management of ecosystem. LZU will support as always the development between the two universities and strengthen the cooperation between two sides in such aspects as talents training and scientific research.
Professor Mburu thanked LZU for their commitment to the collaboration. He also gave brief overview of the achievements that have been taken in the last four years in developing agriculture in arid areas and in conserving water and oil. He said that he experienced the economic and ecological benefits brought by the technique of developing agriculture in arid areas and conserving water and oil in the northwest of China through this investigation. He also pointed out that the experience and technology of China was worthy of studying by Kenya and African countries. He hoped to strengthen the cooperation and communication between the two universities by the establishment of this research center.
