LZU ranks 2nd at 10th National College Structural Design Contest

The 10th National College Students Structural Design Contest of 2016 was held from October 13th to 16th, 2016 at Tianjin University, which was attended by 125 teams from 124 universities nationwide. School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics from LZU participated and finished the second in the contest.

The topic of this competition is “large-span roof structure”. During the four-day competition, 375 contestants,after 18 hours of enclosed modeling, submitted their models which were then put through the weighing test and loading test. The judges, experts from the field of civil engineering, raised their questions and delivered their comments at the site before they finally determined the winners.

Under the guidance of Wang Yajun, LZU team, led by Prof. Wu Shengzhi, League Secretary Chen Hua and Counselor Jia Ni, was made up of Gao Chao, Li Xianzhun and He Zhengxing, all sophomore and junior students. During the contest, the team designed and manufactured The Cuiying Pavilion, a large-span roof structurewhich became an eye-catcher among all participating works. The Pavilion, with the loading weight of 53kg withstood by a 123g structure, was a scientific design of light but pretty structure. With a full play of the intrinsic features of bamboo shavings and strips, it was also a demonstration of the designers’ professional skills and overall capacity.
