Cooperation and Communication between SPAST and Pakistan Colleges and Universities and Scientific Research Institution

Prof. Wang Suomin and Prof. Zhang Jinlin of School of Pastoral Agriculture Science and Technology(SPAST) of LZU were invited to attend The 5th International Conference of Botany and The 14th Pakistan National Conference of Botany as well as visited Pakistan Science Foundation(PSF) and University of Haripur from Jan. 14th to Jan. 19th. 

The conference,  held in Karachi from Jan.15th to Jan. 17th was themed as Climate Change and Plant Diversity—Challenges and Opportunities. Over500 delegates participated in this conference from UNESCO, China, the United States, Germany, Turkey, Qatar, Pakistan, etc.

Prof. Wang and Prof. Zhang gave a report respectively entitled “K+ and Na+ simultaneously plays a positive role in response to drought stress in Apocynum venetum”and“A beneficial soil bacterium induces growth, salt tolerance and metabolites accumulation in Codonopsis pilosula” for the conference and, successively presided as the chairman over some academic reports of Theme Four of the conference. 

On the morining of Jan.19th , Prof.  Wang and his team visited PSF on invitation. Chairman Muhammad Ashraf introduced the background of international cooperation research project between NSFC and PSF as well as technological demands of the two sides in 2016. He expressed that he would providefull support to the project application of Prof. Wang’s team.

After visiting PSF, Prof. Wang and his team made a visit to University of Haripur to conduct academic exchanges met byProf. Nasser Ali Khan, President of University of Haripur. For the arrival of Prof. Wang and his team, Agriculture Science Department of this university specially held a seminar under the title of “One-day International Workshop on Salinity and Drought Stress: Issues and Management Perspectives” where Prof. Wang and Prof. Zhang respectivelygave an academic report entitled“Physiological and molecular mechanisms of tolerance to drought and salt in the xerophyte”and“Salt tolerance mechanism of halophytic grass Puccinellia tenuiflora”.
