Recently, two professors of Evidence-based Medicine Institute of LZU’s School of Basic Medical Sciences—Chen Yaolong as the first author and Yang Kehu as the first corresponding author—published“A Reporting Tool for Practice Guidelines in Health Care: The RIGHT Statement”in Annals of Internal Medicine,an authoritative journal in the field of medicine.
Practice Guidelines in Health Care is the significant evidence for medical staff to make clinical decisions, while there is not a set of recognized international standard for the above guidelines. In 2013, the research group of Reporting Items for Practice Guidelines in healthcare (RIGHT), initiated by Prof.Chen and Prof.Yang of LZU, was co-built by seven international organizations, namely W.H.O, EQUATOR, GIN, COCHRANE, GRADE and AGREE, and 11 countries including America,Canada, the UK,Germany, etc. Three years of efforts completed RIGHT covering 22 items of guideline making in 7 fields of health care. It is the only reporting standard to make health policies and systems, public health and clinical medicine guidelines as well as the only international standard initiated by Chinese scholars in this domain.
Annals of Internal Medicine was established in 1927, with impact factor as 16.59 in 2016. The RIGHT standard published by Annals of Internal Medicine will be compiled in the guidelines revised by related countries and international organizations. W.H.O firstly put this standard into WHO Handbook for Guideline Development to guide its reports. Besides, this standard has also been formally included by EQUATOR(an international medical library that specially gathers and publishes guidelines related to health research reporting).
This research group will continue to study other extensive versions of RIGHT including RIGHT for Proposal, RIGHT for conflicts of interest, RIGHT for acupuncture, RIGHT for Chinese Medicine, etc.
