On May 17th ,invited by College of Earth and Environmental Sciences and Key Laboratory of Western China’s Environmental Systems Ministry of Education, Prof. Andrew Sean Murray and Dr. Reza Sohbati visited our university for academic exchanges. As an Internationally renowned scientist, a pioneer in evolution and application field of luminescence technology, and also the director of Nordic Research Center for Luminescence Dating in Aarhus University, Professor Murray, and Doctor Sohbatithe, the post-doctoral of the Center, gave academic lectures titled "Shining Light on the Past: Luminescence Dating Geology" and "Chronology and OSL dating of rock surface: theory and application" respectively.
This visit of Prof. Murray and Dr. Sohbati to LZU aimed at the implement of field sampling for the joint funded Science Research Project of Denmark with Professor Meng Xingmin --- "Determination of Mass Movement Return Frequency along the Bailong River (Tibet) Using a New Rock-surface Dating Technique". Under the application of rock-surface dating technique invented by Prof. Murray and Dr. Sohbati, the occurrence time of debris flow hazards in the basin of Bailong River will be ascertained. The technique, the most advanced one in dating technology around the world, has not yet been applied internatoionally into any geological disaster.
