On the morning of September 17, 108 alumni couples from across the country gathered at headquarters of Lanzhou University to attend the alumni wedding ceremony themed with “Love in LZU”. 108 alumni couples celebrated alma mater’s 108 birthday in such a special and tender way, which was the first time for LZU to hold the alumni wedding ceremony in its history of more than 100 years.
At the ceremony, Party Secretary Yuan Zhanting, as the officiator of the wedding ceremony, and President Wang Cheng, as the marriage witness, expressed their blessings to these alumni couples. Besides, some alumni representatives and other guests came all the way to witness this campus wedding featured with the reviewing of youth and remembering of love.
It is said that there are both young couples who were newly married and elder couples who have been with each other for many years among these 108 couples. The eldest couple has graduated for decades, while the youngest will graduate in 2019. And among these couples, the eldest couple is Wang Liufang and He Fengying, who have been married for 58 years. Back to 1955, Wang Liufang, 21 years old, and He Fengying, 18 years old, were both enrolled in LZU’s Department of Chemistry. In the year of 1959, they graduated and got married as well. During the past 58 years, Wang Liufang, who is 83 years now, has been exercising boxing or swordplay in LZU’s campus on almost every morning. His 80-year-old wife He Fengying has been also exercising boxing or just watching him exercising aside. When it comes to marriage feelings, they said, “We studied in Lanzhou University and we fell in love here. We have not regretted for been with each other for so many years.”
By the end of 11 am on September 18，more than 1.6 million people have watched the wedding ceremony online .
