On September 16, China-UK Carbon Neutrality Innovation Forum was successfully held in Lanzhou. The forum was hosted by Lanzhou University (LZU), with Southeast University, the University of Leeds, and Queen’s University Belfast as co-organizers. With the theme of “Comparison and Dialogue on China-UK Carbon Neutrality Policies”, the forum aimed to probe into the global perspectives and practical strategies for achieving carbon neutrality. Over 50 esteemed academic experts and industry leaders from more than 20 universities and research institutions both in China and the UK attended the forum. Yan Chunhua, President of LZU and member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Qiu Haibo, Vice President of Southeast University and Yu Jian, Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. Zhang Baojun, Director General of the Foreign Affair’s Office of the People’s Government of Gansu Province, and Zeng Huahui, Deputy Director-General of Educational Department of Gansu Province, attended the ceremony. Vice President Chen Ximeng presided over the opening ceremony and morning session, while Vice President Wang Wei chaired the afternoon session and closing ceremony.
In his speech, Yan Chunhua emphasized that LZU, as a prestigious university with the profound academic foundation, carries the important mission of spearheading future technological development. With the global dual-carbon goals, LZU will give full play to its research capabilities in chemistry, information science, engineering, and material science to foster interdisciplinary integration and development to contribute to the carbon neutrality research, climate change and sustainable development of the globe.
This forum not only deepened the understanding of the shared responsibility of higher education institutions in China and the UK towards global climate challenges but also established a collaborative platform for policy dialogue, technological innovation, and market mechanism successfully. This is not merely a starting point but a solid step forward in the joint journey of China and the UK towards the goal of carbon neutrality.
