In the afternoon of September 30, the opening ceremony and freshman meeting for 2017 international students in LZU was held in the student activity center of the school. Vice President Pan Baotian attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Meng Xingmin, president of International Cultural Exchange Institute, vice president Hong Tao, and more than 300 teachers and students from the International Cultural Exchange Institute attended the opening ceremony.
Pan Baotian expressed warm welcome and sincere congratulations to over 300 new students from more than 60 countries and regions around the world. He introduced the history, characteristics and achievements of LZU, encouraging everyone to be diligent and enterprising, and to be useful professionals in the society.
In the opening ceremony, ancient Chinese adulthood rite was performed. Representatives of students dressed in Chinese traditional Hanfu clothing, revering the ancient Chinese culture, thus giving new foreign students a glimpse of the unique Chinese culture so as to encourage them to learn Chinese and its culture.
At the freshmen meeting, the students gave wonderful artistic performances, with both exotic folk dance and popular classical Chinese songs like "I love you, China" and "Loess Plateau", which won warm applause since it not only demonstrated the students’ amazing singing talents and their good knowledge of Chinese, but also showed local characteristics. Finally, the meeting ended with a merry collective dance.
