Lanzhou University Institutional Repository visitors surpass 3 million

Recently, the number of visitors to Lanzhou University Institutional Repository (LZU IR) surpassed 3 million at home and aboard, greatly expanding the academic influence of LZU in the international community.

According to Wikipedia, “an institutional repository is an archive for collecting, preserving, and disseminating digital copies of the intellectual output of an institution, particularly a research institution.”

Up to now, LZU IR has collected, analyzed and uploaded over 100 thousand academic theses and more than 2400 items of scholar information from 35 departments of LZU since its establishment. The theses entries of LZU IR have been included in reservoirs of GOOGLE and Baidu Scholar, with its total user visits surpassing 3 million from 144 countries and regions around the world. Among these, visits from China have reached 1, 912 million, accounting for 63.7% of the whole; and visits from the USA amounted to 0.794 million, contributing 26.4% to the achievement. LZU IR has received extensive attention all over the world, remarkably enhancing the academic visibility and expanding the academic influence of LZU on the Internet.

To better answer to the demand of scientific research and teaching within the university, IR platform has already supplied much information and refined part of its functions:

  1. The number and types (totally 12 types including SCIE, SSCI, EI, PUBMED, CSSCI) of papers published by each school and all university along with the fund they receive;
  2. The information about SCI high cited scholars and theses from each school;
  3. The IR personal page for every employed or retired teachers from the university to show their SCI citation frequency, H index and paper sorting according to title, publishing time and citation frequency;
  4. The overall revealing of social influence made by the research outcomes by employing the altmetrics method.
