Lanzhou University Li Guoqiang publishes climate change research in EPSL

Recently, Dr. Li Guoqiang and academician Chen Fahu, from the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education on western environment, Lanzhou University, issued an article entitled “A Tianshan Mountains loess-paleosol sequence indicates anti-phase climatic variations in arid central Asia and in East Asia” in the internationally renowned geoscience journal Earth and Planetary Science Letters. This research was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (No. 41771210, 41302143, 41130102).

Academician Chen Fahu and his team proposed a "westerly wind modality" between the eastern monsoon region and the climate changes at different time scales during modern interglacial period (from 11500 years ago to the present) in Central Asia drought region. Research on whether or not there is the modality between the eastern monsoon region and the climate changes in a longer time scale is still lacking.

Dr. Li Guoqiang, the first author of the research paper and correspondence author, is as young as 31 years old. He is an associate professor and Ph.D. supervisor of the LZU School of Resource and Environment. His research focuses on the OSL dating and paleo-environmental changes. In recent years, he has been keeping track of the climate changes in the west wind region and interactions between westerly wind and monsoon wind. He has published more than 30 SCI papers, among which he, as the first author/first correspondent, has published more than 10 SCI papers in international academic journals such as Earth and Planetary Science Letters, Quaternary Science Reviews, and Quaternary Geochronology. In the past five years, he has directed two projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and one project of youth funds, and he has participated in many projects such as the Ministry of Science and Technology 973 project and the National Natural Science Foundation International Cooperation Key Project.
