On the eve of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s 2018 Qingdao Summit, a seminar on “The Future Development of the SCO” was held and a research report “A 17-Year Progress Assessment of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization” was published in Beijing on May 21st. The Institute for Central Asian Studies LZU and the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies, Renmin University of China jointly issued this research report.
Yang Shu, director of the Institute for Central Asian Studies LZU, and Wang Wen, director of the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies, were the chief editors of the report. Professors Zhong Hong, Chen Yazhou, Li Liang, and Wang Sunsen from the ICAS were the authors of the report. The report is considered to be the most comprehensive and in-depth research result on the SCO's 17-year development so far, and it supported the work in Qingdao Summit. The report pointed out that after 17 years of development, the SCO has gradually become the cross-regional international organization with the most extensive geographical coverage, largest population, and multiple cooperation areas in the world, focusing on security regional cooperation mechanisms.

Over the years, the ICAS researchers have devoted themselves to the SCO's dynamic tracking and theoretical research and have achieved fruitful results. In 2012, Prof. Yang Shu from the institute was also awarded the "Shanghai Cooperation Organization 10th Anniversary Medal" by the SCO to honor his outstanding contribution. Since the "One Belt and One Road" strategic initiative was put forward, the institute has carried out many studies on the "Belt and Road" in cooperation with the SCO and has got a series of achievements. In the next step, the institute will continue to enhance cooperation and increase academic exchanges with think tanks both at home and abroad to help develop LZU's "two-class" construction.
