The Key Laboratory of Nonferrous Metals Chemistry and Resources Utilization, Gansu province, was established in June 2009, on the basis of the joint laboratory of metallic compounds of Lanzhou University and Jinchuan Group Ltd, relying on Lanzhou University and Jinchuan Group Co., Ltd. The goal of the key laboratory is to do the researches on basic science and new material development, which focuses on the forefront issues of non-ferrous metal chemistry and the significant demand of social economic development, by combining equipment supplied by Lanzhou University and advantages of Jinchuan Group.
The academic disciplines that involved in the key laboratory include three directions. (1)Rare-earth luminescent materials: nano rare earth luminescence, long afterglow luminescent material, photoelectric conversion materials, new vacuum ultraviolet light-emitting materials and display materials. (2) Novel catalytic materials: new catalyst using nickel, cobalt, copper and precious metals as the catalyst active component, which applied in various chemical processes. (3) Novel energy materials: safe and reliable high-performance chemical energy materials, including fuel cells, solar cells, lithium-ion battery and super capacitor.
The research groups of the laboratory are composed by 28 researchers (16 professors, 7 associate professors and 13 doctoral tutors), including 17 people younger than 45. The current research director is Professor Liu Weisheng and Professor Xue Qunji (Academician, Chinese Academy of Engineering) is the chairman of the Scientific Committee.
As a platform, the laboratory carried out extensive academic exchanges and research cooperation with domestic and international universities and research institutions, includingthe United States, Japan, Croatia, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The laboratory has undertaken more than 70 programs including the General Program and the Youth Foundation ofNational Natural Science Foundation, and the provincial and ministerial level scientific research projects. Upon to now, more than 150 SCI papers have been published.
The key laboratory has more than 30 sets of advanced equipment, the existing instruments worth more than 19 million RMB, including fluorescence spectrometer, field emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffractometer, ICP-EMISspectrometer, simultaneous thermal analyzer, elemental analyzer, and so on.
