From August 13th to 19th, 2012, undertaken by State Key Laboratory of Grassland Agro-ecosystems and the School of Pastoral Agriculture Science and Technology of LZU, the 8th International Symposium on Fungal Endophyte of Grasses (ISFEG) was convened at LZU. More than 150 experts and scholars from the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Sweden, Switzerland, Finland, Israel and China attended the Conference.
After the first meeting in the USA in 1990, it is the first time that ISFEG ever held in Asia. The symposium had three key subjects, including Fungal Endophyte of Grasses, Fungal Endophyte’s influence on the Eco-system and new technology and application of Fungal Endophyte. 12 invited reports, 14 oral reports in affiliated venues and 53 posters were published to show recent advances in the international academic circle of fungal endophyte. The orderly organization of the conference, the academic exchanges among the participants and the devotion LZU made in the research of fungal endophyte were given high praise. Participants unanimously agreed to hold the 9th ISFEG in Melbourne, Australia in 2015.

As the conference ended, Prof. Nan Zhibiao, Chairman of the 8th ISFEG Scientific Committee and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, met the delegation led by Dr. John Caradus, Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand; Prof. German, Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering as well as scholars from USA, Finland, Switzerland and some other countries. Seven cooperation agreements on collaborative projects and personnel training were signed between China and relevant research institutions abroad.
