Grand Chief Sir Michael Ogio of Papua New Guinea and his wife visited Lanzhou University and Wang Hansong, CPC Party Secretary of Lanzhou University welcomed the delegation in the VIP hall on September 6.
Wang Hansong extended a warm welcome to Grand Chief Sir Michael Ogio’s special visit to China to attend the Commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Victory of the China People's Anti-Japanese War and the World Anti-Fascist War and to LZU in particular. Wanghan Song said, LZU teachers and students were very excited to watch parade and firmly supported the CPC and the Chinese Government and President Xi’s "Three Win" historical conclusion. He gave a brief account of the history, profile, advantageous disciplines and international exchanges of LZU and emphasized the growing LZU’ international influence. In the spirit of Populus, LZU faculty were committed to developing a first-class university, personnel training, scientific research, social services, cultural heritage and innovation. Lanzhou University constantly strengthened international exchanges and cooperation, and looked forward to establishing more cooperation platforms with universities in the world in an open spirit.
Ogio said that the victory belonged to not only the Chinese people, but also the world's people. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries maintained good exchanges and cooperation in trade, culture and other areas. In the future, he hoped to further strengthen exchanges and expand areas of cooperation. He stressed that Papua New Guinea’s development could not be achieved without China for China delivered a lot of help to Papua New Guinea in the field of education and investment. According to him, the university served as an important force driving the development and progress of mankind by providing talents. He spoke highly of the achievements of LZU, and hoped LZU to strengthen cooperation with Papua New Guinea in the field of education in various ways like signing agreement in the future.
After the meeting, Wang Hansong accompanied foreign guests to visit the library and the State Key Laboratory of Applied Organic Chemistry.
