Prof. Sun Bonian attends 16th NECLIME international academic conference

From October 14 to 17, the 16th NECLIME (Neogene Climate Evoution in Eurasia) international academic conference was held in Madrid, Spain. Experts and scholars from China, Germany, France, Britain, Russia, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ukraine, Italy, Spain and so on attended the conference. Professor Sun Bonian from the School of Geology and Mineral Resources of Lanzhou University was invited to the conference and delivered a report entitled “Cuticular structures of several palms from the Palaeogene in South China and their geological significance”, which received wide attention and extensive praises from other experts and scholars and improved the reputation of paleontology research group of Lanzhou University in the international academic community.

This conference was chaired by Volker Mosbrugger, an internationally renowned palaeobotanist and paleontologist, director of the Earth Science Division of DFG and curator of the German Frankfurt Sunken Fort Museum. It includes more than 30 presentations and several panels. It is an important international academic conference in the areas of ancient extinct life and ancient climate. The major topics of the conference are the ancient plants, palynology, ancient climate and relevant heated topics. As an ideal platform for exchange of advanced scientific ideas, presentation of scientific and research fruits and improvement of international reputation, each annual conference attracts renowned paleontologist and palaeoclimatologists from all around the world. During this annual conference, the delegates discussed over the topics of climate change and vegetation of the Eurasia in Neogene Period, the attitude and Cenozoic stratigraphic correlation of the Eurasia and so on. Professor Sun Bonian introduced the progress in the research in Neogene plant and climate in China, which received great interests from the delegates. During the conference, delegates also visited the Spanish Geological Museum and the Royal Botanical Garden in Madrid.
