Quartet Joint Conference on Confucius Institute co-constructed by LZU held at Alma-Ata

Quartet Joint Conference on the Confucius Institute co-constructed by Lanzhou University was held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University from 23th to 27th in May. Participants present the conference include Pan Baotian, vice president of Lanzhou University and Chinese board chairperson of the Confucius Institute, Byrkіtbaev M.M, the first vice president of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Smailova A.B, the division chief of foreign affairs, representatives of Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies, Chinese and foreign deans of the Confucius Institute of Tashkent, Confucius Institute of Free University of Tbilisi and the Confucius Institute of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University were participated in this conference. The conference divided into two parts: plenary meeting and meeting of directors of the Confucius Institute.

The keynote of this joint conference is “communication, exchange and development”, which is to realize communication, cooperation and mutual benefit Among Confucius Institutes through constructing communication platform.

As pointed out by Byrkіtbaev M.M, the communication and cooperation between Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Lanzhou University started 20 years ago. Since then, the two parties have built Chinese Learning Center, which is the oldest Chinese teaching institute in central Asia. Therefore, more students have begun to learn Chinese, and young people have more opportunities to study in China. At the meantime, this center builds a platform for people to know more about China. The Confucius Institute plays an important role in encouraging Chinese learning in Kazakhstan, stimulating educational and cultural exchange between Chinese and Kazakhstan, and developing friendship in those two countries. He hopes to deepen the friendship between Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Lanzhou University to push the cooperation further by seizing educational and exchanging opportunities presented by the Silk Road Economic Belt construction.

After the opening ceremony, representatives presented the release conference of a translated book Al-Farabi and Modernity, which was a result of cooperation of Lanzhou University and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and a fruit of Confucius Institute of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
