On 10th July, 13th Silk Road Travel of Students across the Taiwan Strait, hosted by LZU and undertaken by LZU's Committee of Communist Youth League, marked its start in LZU. The activity, with the theme of "Reflect on Silk Road culture, Inherit Chinese civilization", collected students from 15 famous universities across the Strait including Tsing Hua University (Taiwan), Chinese Culture University (Taiwan), University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Harbin Engineering University and so on. Participators would spend 10 days on this Silk Road Cultural Investigation and Exchange Travel.
Silk Road Travel of Students across the Taiwan Strait provides a platform for the exchanges of students across the Taiwan Strait, intended to strengthen the communication among youth of the two sides and enable Taiwanese to appreciate the long course of Chinese history so that students from both sides will know about the folk custom along the Silk Road. By this, the cultural and educational exchanges of the both sides will also be improved. This round of travel will begin from 10th July and end on 20th July. The team started from Lanzhou to pay a visit to Jingtai County of Baiyin, Wuwei, Zhangye, Jiayuguan, Dunhuang and other cities along the Silk Road.
It is said that "Silk Road Travel of Students across the Taiwan Strait" can be dated to 2005. By now, 12 rounds of travel have been hosted. By encouraging participants to visit cultural heritages, appreciate natural landscape, experience the folk custom and hold students activities, it promotes the cultural identification and exchanges of students in China's mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao. Moreover, it has been listed by Ministry of Education for many times as the important project for exchanges with Taiwan, and has won the first prize for brilliant achievement in the 8th Campus Cultural Improvement of Universities and Colleges.
